About to be Rescued

Turkey and me. My parents return today! Hope the robbers have enjoyed looting their house in the mountains.

In honor of their return, I am watching the first episode of LOST from 2004 (thanks, Shannon and Josh!).

Hero of the Day Jenny came over earlier to walk Turkey, and then me. We walked all the way to Starbucks, which I have not had in 10 days. Despite having been a barista in 1998 (what up, Coolidge Corner?!), I do not even love Starbucks all that much. But I have been on a tear because I am obsessed with reaching the Gold Level. Which I just reached today! Thanks, Jenny! We also went to CVS and the bank, so I could deposit my disability check. Which raises the issue: if you are needing to be on disability, wouldn’t it be correct to assume that you likely CAN’T GET TO THE BANK? If you can get to the bank, can’t you get to work? (In my case: no. I can walk .3 mile to bank…work requires fighting Metro and my Metro station is closed.)(And also my foot can’t be down for more than about 30 minutes or it goes numb and takes 2 hours to get un-numb. I am not digging this side effect.)

I am super excited to go to Dr. Awesome Doc in another week, because I am hoping he’ll give me a timeline of returning to some form (anything!) of exercise. Right now I still can’t submerge the wound, so even swimming or kicking or aqua-jogging is totally out. I’d even figured out that I could take the bus to the pool.

I am gearing up to ask Dr. Awesome Doc about doing the MS Ride this year. I’ve done the ride with my mom the past two years and am hopeful I will be able to do it again, realizing that I will be more likely to have to do shorter mileage this year.

Also, I am on the COVER of the MS Ride brochure this year (for the Blue Ridge Chapter, which is central Virginia, West Virginia, and southeastern Kentucky), so there is pretty much no way I can’t do it. My mom and my friend Liz are also on the front of it (I loved Liz’s email to me, which indicated this was the ONLY part of the weekend at which she was in front of me.) Biking through vineyards on the Tour de Vine? Yes, please.

Not quite sure why this didn’t scan in color. But it didn’t. It looks way better in color.

In other news, Walgreens* just sent me a W2 for 2011, indicating I earned $3k in 2011. Which is interesting since I last worked there on October 6, 2010, and have not received a dime since. I spent most of last tax season fighting with them, due to an incorrect W2. When I quit I had to pay back a signing bonus, which I did willingly and gladly…it just took 3 months for stupid payroll to catch up to it and ALLOW me to pay it back (though in fact, they garnished my last paycheck, without warning, to make the first payment towards the payback). Then they issued me a W2 indicating I’d kept the money, and wouldn’t issue an amended one. Want to make the IRS laugh? Call and report Walgreens for negligence. I did it twice. I finally got an amended W2. I was pretty excited about doing my taxes next week, since for the first time in many, many years I only had one employer, in one state, with one W2.

Thanks, Walgreens, for showing me yet again that I made the right decision to quit your employ. Here’s hoping this mess gets sorted out before April.

How do I prove I never saw a dime of that $3k they say they gave me? Anybody know a good lawyer????

* Thankfully haven’t had to talk about Walgreens in a while. Can’t say that I’ve missed it. Walgreens is code-speak for the name of the Important Government Agency where I used to work, so I don’t have men in suits amd dark glasses haul me off to jail. I do enjoy shopping at the actual Walgreens, cause they let me bring Turkey inside and they have good deals, and mean no disrespect.
